GUIDING PRINCIPLES
& PRINCIPLES OF COMMITMENT
TO HELP STUDENTS STAY ON THEIR SPIRITUAL PATH

Three Guiding Principles

1. Live without judgment of yourself or others (positive or negative judgment).

It is necessary to accept yourself for who you are in this moment in order for you to grow according to phi. If you build yourself up, or tear yourself down, you have no foundation from which to grow.

2. Live life in service of the whole.

It is an ironic twist that the most effective way to help yourself is to help others. We are not talking about being altruistic or about being good for the sake of being good. This is about something fundamental to the nature of the human being: your soul has a gift to bring to the world. And, in the process of your soul giving it, you benefit all of life.

3. Use your function words to accomplish principles 1 and 2.

One of the major discoveries of New Equations is that you have to actively direct your body to do something physical in order to align your body with your soul. We have found a set of words that we call the function words that help get you into this optimal state. New ways of being become available to you, and you become able to see more possibilities, options, and opportunities.

Aligning your body and soul is not a mental process. Your physical body needs to actively participate. The function words are soultype-specific and are designed to proactively direct your body into this alignment.

In order to get past your own limited world view, you will need to direct your body with your soultype's function words. Otherwise, no matter how good your intentions are, you will tend to live in service of yourself.

Principles of Commitment

In addition to the three guiding principles for New Equations practices, there are additional principles that are part of the Track 3 training. These are principles that a student in Track 3 will need to actively practice on a daily, ongoing basis.

As you become more involved in New Equations, you will experience increasing intensity and speed with which things evolve and happen in your life, and at some point you will transform to a new way of being that propels you forward with the energy of your soul's wisdom. The increasing intensity may bring with it the challenge of learning to stay with intensity so your body can acclimate to this new level of energy and new way of being, instead of moving away from it—consciously or unconsciously.

The New Equations process is ongoing, i.e., you will never cross a finish line. There will be no marker indicating a final arrival or stopping point. Instead there will be a strengthening of your spirit and an increase in momentum as you move in the direction of embodying and living from your soul's wisdom.

Track 3 includes a commitment to applying the following principles in daily life:

1) letting go of preconceived ideas and expectations.
This means you will continually let go of preconceived ideas about what each moment in time should look like. People can be so connected and attached to their ideas that they believe they are the ideas; in other words, as though their life represents those ideas. Living as though you are your ideas keeps you from being fully present in the moment. Not being fully present in the moment results in relying on your ideas to such an extent that you begin to replace the reality that is right in front of you with your idea of what is happening. This can manifest in reactions such as: fighting to defend an idea, removing yourself from the process, and/or judgment of self and others.

2) living in service of the whole.
Although it seems counter intuitive, the more you live in service of others the more your needs will be met, and the more realistic your desires become. If you focus on getting your needs and desires met before the needs of the whole, you will always be competing for limited resources. What also follows is a perpetual fear that even if all of your needs and desires are met now, they may not be met in the future. The result is that you will never really be satisfied no matter how much you have, leading to more and greater desires. When you live in service of the whole you have less need for recognition, acknowledgment, praise, status, or material possessions, etc. When you live in service of the whole you help create what is needed for the whole.

3) following your soul's path at all times.
You will never be able to predict the direction your soul will take, or know what your future will be like when your soul leads. Track 3 means training to follow your soul's path at all times, not part-time.

4) starting over in every human interaction.
People rely on the memory of their past experiences to help them function in the current moment — they use their memory to repeat a way of engaging with others that seemed to work before. However, since every moment is different from every other moment, you will need to make a conscious decision to not rely on the past and be open to what the present brings. In this way, you create an opportunity for your soul to guide you in your interactions.

5) paying attention to, caring for, and responding to your body.
Your soul’s wisdom is experienced and expressed through your physical body. In order to engage in Track 3 you will need to rest, exercise, take in appropriate nutrition, get bodywork as needed, and do whatever else enables you to care for yourself at a very high level. You will also need to develop your ability to discern what may at first seem like subtle body signals and follow these signals even if they do not seem to make sense to you or fit into what you think you should be doing.

6) staying with the intensity of human interaction.
When there is increased intensity in human interaction caused by emotions or due to unfamiliar experiences, it is common for people to smooth over or change the experience so that it feels familiar and comfortable. New Equations teaches people to respond to these situations in a different way. Training in Track 3 includes practicing staying with intensity in order to see what happens when you wait for what may seem like a very long time. This allows you to discover new ways of engaging with people because there is time for more information to come into your awareness.
